UK Space Agency backs sewage spill assessment project

Our proposed Sewage Outfall Assessment by Remote Sensing (SOARS) project has received a UK Space Agency National Space Innovation Programme Kick Starter grant.

The project will aim to apply oil spill identification techniques to sewage spills using newly available data, and employ novel machine learning techniques with optical satellite data to assess their impact. It will also assess the anticipated synergy of the combination of these techniques to link impacts to their causes.

The team will receive £250K of funding over 18 months and will be led by Barbara Hofmann and Quillon Harpham.
