CEDA-UK Announces Nick Bray as Winner for the Outstanding Contribution Award 2024
We are delighted to share that Nick Bray, former Consultant at HR Wallingford, has been announced as the winner of the Central Dredging Association, UK (CEDA-UK), Outstanding Contribution Award.
This prestigious award honours individuals who have made exceptional contributions to the UK dredging industry. The award was formally presented during the CEDA-UK event which took place at the Institution of Civil Engineers in London on Thursday 5 December 2024.
Nick has enjoyed a distinguished career in the dredging industry, most notably as Founder and Director of Dredging Research Ltd which later became part of HR Wallingford. Following the acquisition he spent 10 years as a Consultant, sharing his expertise widely.
Among some of his most notable achievements is leading the authorship of the seminal textbook Dredging: A Handbook for Engineers, co-written with Anthony Bates and John Land. First published in 1979, with a second edition released in 1997, the book served as the definitive reference on dredging for over 25 years and remains an essential resource 45 years on.
In addition, Nick edited the 2008 textbook Environmental Aspects of Dredging, authored the CIRIA Dredging Cost Standards in 2009 and contributed to the 1991 British Standard for Dredging and Land Reclamation, all of which have had enduring impacts on the industry.
He was also a highly active member of CEDA, contributing to numerous commissions and working groups while fostering relationships across the global dredging community. His remarkable contributions and dedication have left a lasting legacy.
Dr Mark Lee, Technical Director commented, ‘We’d like to congratulate Nick on his exceptional achievements, it is fantastic that these have been recognised with this award, his contributions continue to benefit those in the industry today.'
